Joe presented a paper titled, “Can Habermas Help Communities Talk about Racism? The Ideal Speech Situation and the Shift from Diversity to Racial Equity”, at the International Communal Studies Association Conference, July 18-21, 2019, at Camphill Communities near Hudson, New York.
At the May-June 2019 National Cohousing Conference in Portland, Oregon, Joe offered an intensive half-day workshop on “How Communities Can Address Racism, White Privilege, and Social Justice,” as well as a weekend session on “Sharing Circles and Nurturing Community Bonds.”
Joe wrote an article for Communities Magazine in December of 2018 on collaborative skill-building in intentional communities.

Joe has a chapter in the 2016 book by Routledge Press, Experiential Learning in Philosophy. His chapter is titled, "Studying War and Contributing to the Community," and describes the use of community-engaged learning and experiential learning in Joe's course on the ethics of war, conflict, and pacifism.
